Summit Overview

Day 1 (11/13): Board Strategic Visioning

As a first step in the strategic planning process, the Board will assess information from multiple sources. These will include current literature about the trends and challenges for academic library consortia as well as lots of information specific to CNY:

  • A survey of all member libraries
  • Insights from interviews with each of the Committees
  • Different perspectives from interviews with previous member institutions
  • Findings from other consortia with a similar mission (academic, largely private, etc.)

This base of information will identify the big picture that then leads to a broad beginning of the strategic plan (purpose, vision and priorities).

Day 2 (11/14): Community Planning

The Community representatives of member institutions will be presented the broad strategic context developed by the Board on Day 1. They, along with the Board members, will then develop how the individual Committees may be able to help achieve the Board’s broad purpose, vision, and priorities through a set of activities and discussions. This process will result in a set of identified objectives and strategies designed to move the big picture forward.

*Note: Attendance on 11/14 is limited to 50 people. Once this threshold is reached, further registration will be blocked.

Beyond the Summit

The CNY Ad Hoc Planning Committee will review the work that takes place during the Summit. From that, they will create a draft strategic plan that incorporates both the big picture from the Board and the implementation ideas from the Community. The result will be a broad CNY Strategic Plan that can guide the organization and its members to a successful future.
